The custom cover process
Getting a custom cover is simple! Contact me at admin@avdaldesigns.com or on Facebook or Instagram, and tell me a little bit about your project. Let me know things like the genre (PNR, western, etc), any specifics about how you want the models on the cover to look, and maybe a little about the plot. You don’t have to know all of this yet, for this first consultation we’re just looking at the big picture! One thing that can really help is to send me a few examples of other covers that you like.
Also let me know if there are other elements you’d like to see on the cover? I love collaborating with writers so tell me what you have in mind!
After I hear from you, I’ll respond with my availability and a rough estimate of the final price. I normally also will send over a few potential stock photos for the different elements for you to consider, or sometimes I’ll also send links to a few other covers and ask if they have a similar design to what you’re looking for. We’ll also discuss if this is going to be part of a series (I have a 15% discount for books 2+ in the series) and certain branding elements such as matching fonts to your current books or if you want a logo designed.
Once we’ve settled on the general design idea, I charge a $50 concept mockup.

Concept mockups
This is when I make a very rough mockup of how the final cover might look. Here we can discuss design elements and make any big alterations. This is the time for you to give me all your feedback and we’ll figure out all the major final details. Once we’ve agreed on the mockup, the $50 will be put towards the final cost.
Keep in mind that the mockup is only meant to be a rough draft of the final product. It will likely have some rough edges, and will be missing a lot of the final lighting and hand painting elements that will really pull the whole piece together. However, it should give you a good general of the final results. This is the time to make any big alterations (ie. a different model, background, or perhaps even a whole new idea!). I will send up to two totally different concept mockups.

The $50 mockup fee isn't refundable, but I will be happy to make whatever reasonable adjustments you need to ensure that you get a final design that you're happy with. Once we agree on the main elements of the mockup, this $50 is applied towards the cost of the final design (ie a $300 cover would be $50 for the mockup then $250 for the final design.
How a custom design is made
I typically make my covers out of a minimum of 2 images though usually 5+ is more common. Because I use stock photos, it might be possible that another cover out there will have the same model. To prevent this, I will often use a different head on a new body and sometimes change the hair and clothing. My premium covers also involve a lot of hand painting to full customize them.
